Helpful Ideas for Planning Child-Friendly Holiday Events

Posted on 10-15-2015

Preschool_CastlerockFall and winter seasons have great opportunities for child-friendly celebrations and events. Parents and children enjoy the opportunities to decorate, enjoy tasty meals, beautiful weather, and year-end celebrations during the holidays. Thoughtful and early planning can make the difference between an event filled with fun and laughter and a stressful day filled with last minute decisions.

Toddlers, preschool children, and school-aged children love the fall and winter holidays. Parents can enjoy the fun too with careful planning.

Here are some helpful ideas for planning your child-friendly holiday events:

  • Plan early. One of the best planning steps to take is to plan ahead. Decide if your event will be formal or casual, how many guests you will invite and the ages and stages of life of your guests. Will your event include infants, toddlers, preschoolers, teenagers and adults? Decide on your date, location, and time. Also begin to tell your guest so they can save the date.
  • Decide on the location and space. Think about where food will be served? Will the teenagers have a space to play video games or watch movies? Where will the infants nap? Do you have a space for adult games and conversation? Will your guests be able to enjoy the indoors and outdoors? Are there any safety measure needed if your guests will be outdoors?
  • Plan your menu with various choices. When you entertain families in a child-friendly environment, menu items should be diverse and include vegetarian options, child-friendly sweet treats, healthy options, and traditional comfort foods.
  • Create your budget. Consider your guest list, decorations, and menu. Determine an approximate cost. If the cost is higher than your desired budget, revise your plans to fit your budget.
  • Consider your guest. To better accommodate your guests, consider what they may need during your event. Parents of newborns may need a quiet place for their baby to rest. Toddlers will need a safe area to move around, without hurting themselves. Teenagers may be louder and need room to play, enjoy video games, or watch a movie. Adults will need space for conversation and fun games.
  • Relax and have fun. Parents usually plan holiday celebrations and do most of the work. When it’s time for the fun, try to relax and enjoy. Arrange the food so people can help themselves. Accept the offers for help, and use serving utensils that provide easy cleaning.

Holiday celebrations bring plenty of fun for children and parents. It’s important to balance the work with the fun so parents and children can enjoy the celebration. At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Rock, we understand the importance of balancing activities. That’s why infants, toddlers, and preschool children at Kids ‘R’ Kids Castle Rock enjoy learning through many different sources.
