School aged children are enjoying the fun of summer while many parents are planning a vacation for the entire family to enjoy. A well-planned vacation can create lasting memories that bring beautiful smiles and laughs for many years. Even families traveling with infants, toddlers, or preschool children can enjoy a fun and exciting family vacation by following some simple travel recommendations.

Here are 5 vacation tips for families traveling with infants, toddlers, or preschool children:

1. Plan thoughtfully. When choosing your destination, consider the needs of everyone in the family. Does your destination offer attractions for children or family style entertainment (the beach is a great destination for easy family fun)? Will you have enough room for your infant car seat or stroller? Will you have enough room for your toddler to safely move around? Can you find some quiet time for yourself? Is it a safe and comfortable environment for children?

2. Pack carefully. Consider the needs for each child for the duration of the trip. For example:

  • A personal back pack for your children to keep their toys and games.
  • Healthy finger-food snacks
  • Plenty of sunscreen and any medications that might be needed
  • Fun travel games and electronic entertainment
  • Personal items like hand wipes, sanitizer, and paper towels
  • Plenty of bottled water

3. Decide to have fun. Have a family talk before you leave. Let your children know the sacrifices that were made to enjoy the vacation. Tell them how dedicated you are to enjoying quality time together. Make a commitment to have fun and enjoy each other’s company. That means sibling arguments and small disappointments, like poor service, or a cancelled event, will not interfere with the family fun.

4. Be prepared for the unexpected. Traveling as a family increases the likelihood that something unexpected will happen. If so, seek to find humor in the unexpected situation and find fun ways to adjust your plans to something even better. Find new solutions quickly, let the disappointment pass, and move forward to enjoy your valuable time together.

5. Be Flexible. In an effort to satisfy the family, flexibility is a great benefit. Encourage your family to try new foods, participate in new activities, and seek to enjoy the time together in many different ways.

As educators, the staff at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Rock understands the need to be flexible with infants, toddlers, and preschool children. That’s why our excellent standards-based curriculum is designed to grow with your child unlike an average daycare of childcare facility. Children at Kids ‘R’ Kids of Castle Rock learn indoors, outdoors, through instruction, play, electronics, and more.
